On 2 October, a team of six from Singapore embarked on a mission trip to Skun Church with a single heart and purpose: to empower and equip the local youth to step up and organise the Children’s Day Camp.
What transpired over the next three days exceeded all our expectations and showed us firsthand how God works through the next generation to do His work.
Day 1 (2 Oct): Training and Preparing the Youth
Our Singapore team gathered with 17 youth from Skun Church. Our main goal for the day was to train and mentor these youth to lead the camp. Throughout the day, we equipped them with skills to lead worship, facilitate games, and organize activities for the children.
The youth were attentive, hungry to learn, and took ownership of every detail. By the end of the day, they were ready and looking forward to leading the children.
Day 2 (3 Oct): Children’s Day Camp in Action
We welcomed 34 energetic children who arrived with eager hearts for the Children’s Day Camp!
We were amazed to watch the Skun youth take full charge of the entire programme. They led the worship passionately, ran the games with energy, and cared for every child. The Singapore team stood back in awe at how seamlessly they stepped up. Some of us jokingly remarked that we could just “shake leg”!
Besides running the camp, the youth spent time coaching the children for the upcoming Sunday service, preparing them for skits and dance performances.
Day 3 (4 Oct): Sunday Service & Performances
During the Sunday service, the children put up 2 skits and 2 dances for the entire church congregation! It was a beautiful culmination of all the training and preparation from the day before, bringing immense joy and praise to the whole church community. All glory to God for empowering the youths to bless the children!
Heartfelt Reflections & Sustainable Fruit
“I grew so much in confidence. I realized that I can actually do it!”
— Skun Youth Leader
“I realized that our youth can really do it. I must give them a chance to serve in church even though they are young and make mistakes.”
— Pastor Villa, Skun Village Church
Because of this breakthrough, Pastor Villa announced an exciting new initiative: the Skun youth will now lead the church service once a month! We praise God for this lasting fruit that will continue to grow long after our trip.
Unexpected Blessings & Praise Reports
- A Gifted Translator Team: We were blessed with 6 translators who joined our team for all three days. They showed incredible initiative and worked harmoniously alongside the Skun youth to facilitate and execute the camp smoothly.
- A Heart Won for Christ: The ultimate icing on the cake was seeing one of our translators, David, who came into the trip as a pre-believer, open his heart to the Gospel and accept Christ during the trip!
Looking Ahead
We praise God for everything He accomplished in and through the youths at Skun Church, Pastor Villa, as well as in our own hearts. Please continue to stand with us in prayer for Pastor Villa and the youth leaders as they prepare for their monthly services, and David as he begins his journey with Jesus!
